Kubota BT601 Backhoe Workshop Manual

The BT601 is a small Kubota backhoe that hangs off the back of a compact tractor for trenching, stump work, and general digging. Folks reach for the workshop manual when the backhoe is off warranty and starting to leak, slop around in the pins, or lose power. Around my shop I want this kind of manual when I've got the hoe off the tractor in the shed and I'm actually tearing into cylinders, valves, or the swing frame, not just greasing it.

What this manual helps you do

  • Diagnose sloppy boom, dipper, and bucket movement and trace it to bushings, pins, or cylinders
  • Check hydraulic pressures and flow on the BT601 side and verify the valve block is doing what it should
  • Follow teardown and reassembly steps for cylinders, control valves, and swing mechanisms
  • Replace seals, hoses, and wear parts with the right order of disassembly so you don't damage castings
  • Adjust reliefs, linkages, and controls so the backhoe digs straight and returns to proper neutral

Who this is for

This is for an owner-operator, small contractor, or shop mechanic who already knows how to run a backhoe and now needs repair procedures and specs. If you're just learning how to operate the BT601 or mount it to the tractor, you want the operator's manual, not this workshop manual.

FAQ

Q: Is this a searchable PDF, and can you read the hydraulic and wiring diagrams?

A: Yes, these manuals are usually searchable PDFs and the schematics are clear enough to zoom in and follow lines.

Q: Will this cover my year of BT601 backhoe and any tractor it mounts to?

A: It's written for the BT601 backhoe itself, across its production run, regardless of which compatible Kubota tractor it's hanging on.

Q: Is this the right document if I'm rebuilding or troubleshooting, not just doing fluids?

A: Yes, this is the workshop manual, which is what you want for teardown, diagnostics, and adjustments.

Bottom line: If you're wrenching on a BT601 backhoe itself, this is the right manual. If you need tractor engine or HST info, you'll need that tractor's own WSM as well.
